Alter ("we," "our," or "the App") is a playlist curation and management app that connects to your Spotify account. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we access, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using Alter, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Access
When you connect your Spotify account, Alter accesses the following data through the Spotify API:
- Your playlists — names, track listings, and metadata.
- Your listening history — top artists, tracks, and genre data to power insights.
- Your profile information — Spotify display name and account ID.
- Playlist modification permissions — ability to swipe tracks to keep, remove, or favorite.
We only access the data necessary to provide the App's features. We do not access your Spotify password, payment information, or private messages.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information accessed through Spotify solely to provide and improve the App's functionality, including:
- Playlist curation — displaying your playlists and syncing changes back to Spotify.
- Listening insights — generating your personal listening statistics.
- Favorites sync — maintaining your Alter Favorites playlist.
- Search and discovery — enabling you to search for artists and albums.
3. Data Storage and Security
Alter does not store your Spotify login credentials. Authentication is handled securely through Spotify's OAuth 2.0 protocol. We may store minimal data locally on your device to improve performance.
We implement reasonable security measures to protect any data processed by the App, although no method of electronic transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
4. Third-Party Services
Alter integrates with Spotify via the Spotify Web API. Your data is subject to Spotify's Privacy Policy. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
5. Data Retention & Rights
We retain your data only for as long as necessary. If you disconnect your Spotify account or delete the App, local data is removed. You have the right to disconnect your account through Spotify settings.
